The Dreiburgenland region - idyllic setting in a low mountain range
The Bavarian Forest's Dreiburgenland region is an idyllic landscape, set in a low mountain range between the national park and Passau, the city of three rivers. The region owes its name to the three castles (Dreiburgen means three castles) of Saldenburg (our Youth Hostel), Enlgburg and Schloss Fürstenstein. Saldenburg castle was built in the 14th century, surrounded by untouched nature. Every time it was refurbished, preserving its original state was a priority. The neighbouring woods with their old trees are great for leisurely walks or a game of hide-and-seek. The vast grounds are ideal for outdoor games or bonfires. Inside, you will find spacious rooms with a historic atmosphere.
