Schliersee and Spitzingsee: a paradise for holidays and winter sports
The Schliersee area is an internationally renowned winter sport resort in the Bavarian Alps. It is also a climatic health spa. The village has a population of about 6,500 and is located in the Miesbach uplands, the "soul of Bavaria". Schliersee (785 metres above sea level) and Spitzingsee (1,085 metres above sea level) are bathing lakes with top quality water. The highest mountain massif in the region is the Sonnwendjoch, with an altitude of 1,986 metres. Because the region is so easy to reach from Munich, Schliersee became a popular recreational area for Bavarians and other Germans early on. Away from the big city, it is ideal for taking a break from the everyday routine and enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings. Plenty of sports and leisure activities are on offer in the region for holidaymakers, both in summer and winter.
